Famous Hong Kong director Mr. Tong Kei Ming(唐基明), was invited to give public talks in FCE from November 18th to 20th. Mr. Tong analyzed three movies which were Howl’s Moving Castle (Japan), Touch of the Light (Taiwan) and Slumdog Millionaire (India/ UK). Participants not only had a better understanding of movie’s theme, script writing, casting, light controlling, sound effect and film editing, but also had some reflection on life.

Mr. Tang graduated from Fine Arts Department of New Asia College, Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1975. He devoted himself to TV series and films for more than 30 years and has own nominations and prizes in Hong Kong Film Awards. Currently he is a lecturer in the Academy of Film of Hong Kong Baptist University. During these three days, Mr. Tong analyzed the three movies from three different perspectives and also showed film clips. During day time, Mr. Tong also held two individual discussions with students.

In the third seminar on Slumdog Millionaire, Mr. Tong asked the students ‘Do you think you are rich or not?’ Students held different opinions. Some students thought they were rich enough because of their youth and their hearts were filled with love. On the contrary, some others thought they were poor because they were not perfect and their minds were not mature. Mr. Tong said being rich or not was not based on comparison, but it was valued by how much you want to learn and who you want to be. Mr. Tong encouraged all students to be as humble as Steve Jobs, always “Stay hungry and stay foolish”. All participating students learned a lot.
