Collegiate Learning Day lecture: Architecture and Meditation

Ms. Corrin Chan is the Hong Kong registered architect and the Chairman of Hong Kong Architecture Centre. Cheng Yu Tung College was honored to invite her to give a lecture with topic “Architecture and Meditation” on November 18th.

This lecture had more than 300 audiences including CYTC members, teachers and students from different faculties. During the lecture, Ms. Corrin talked about how meditation can pacify one’s mind so as to observe architecture, to understand the surrounding and to understand oneself. She also presented that how her group of professional architects tried to promote and give “positive energy” to Hong Kong city during a period of difficult time in Hong Kong. They organized an activity “My 10 Most Liked Hong Kong Architect of the Century” for the public to increase the awareness and appreciation of their home town. Ms. Chan showed her passion on promoting a beautiful angle of Hong Kong through simplifying Hong Kong architectures into lovely 2-D symbols, talk and exhibition about the story of Hong Kong Architectures, public voting on “My 10 Most Liked Hong Kong Architect of the Century”. Students reflected that they not only learned the story about Hong Kong Architectures but also were deeply impressed by the passion of Ms. Chan. This public lecture fulfills the “Cultural Engagement” of RC 5 competencies and confirms to the “Cultural Refinement (大雅)” and “Noble Aspiration (大志)” of CYTC goals.
