In compliance with the Chinese Central Government’s policy, the Macau Special Administrative Region Government and the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government give partner assistance to the Revitalization of Rural Areas in Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province. The Macau SAR policy is likewise followed by Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) and Moon Chun Memorial College (MCMC). From March 26 to March 28, 2023, the two colleges had a brief yet fruitful visit to Jiangxi province. Prof. Wong Seng Fat, CYTC interim College Master, College Fellow Ms. Diane Lu, Moon Chun Memorial College Fellow Ms. Alice Hong, and three selected CYTC students visited four primary schools in Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province. The delegation visited Shankou Town Yusheng Jinrong No.2 Primary School (山口鎮裕盛錦榮第二小學), Heshi Town Central Primary School (何市鎮中心小學), Zhajin Town No.2 Primary School (渣津鎮第二小學), and Hangkou Town Shuangjing Primary School (杭口鎮雙井小學). The goal of the tour was to meet with local officials and administrators from four schools to discuss the issues their institutions are facing and how two colleges can assist them overcome them in the near future.

CYTC and MCMC intend to launch a new Service-Learning program in Xiushui County as part of their 10th anniversary celebrations. From the interviews, the group learnt that four schools were having different issues. Most schoolchildren were underdeveloped in terms of music, athletics, art, and scientific popularization. Two Colleges aim to implement a service-learning program in Xiushui County in the summer recess this year, seeking to help the overall development of the local kids through courses and after-class activities.

The goal of the Service-Learning program is also to inspire students to serve as volunteers and receive life-enriching experiences through interacting with children, teenagers, and instructors from other schools, cultures, and backgrounds.

The delegation also paid visits to the Autumn Harvest Uprising Memorial Hall and Huang Tingjian’s hometown. The memorial hall teaches patriotism and revolutionary tradition. It was named a patriotic education demonstration base and one of Jiangxi Province’s “Top 10 Red Attractions.” Huang Tingjian was a well-known Northern Song Dynasty literary personality. Teachers and students gained a better understanding of Jiangxi’s Xiushui County after seeing the memorial hall and old residence.
