Carrying out the “5 Competencies of UM Residential Colleges” in the Visit of Beihang University
An exchange program for the ZhiXin Residential College (知行書院), Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (the Beihang University) designed by Cheng Yu Tung College (CYTC) was successfully held from July 25th to 28th. All 31 students from the Beihang University expressed they had learned a lot and had a wonderful memory with 18 staff and students from CYTC. The staff was led by Master Chung to visit the College facilities and a session of exchanging educational ideas was held.
The students from the Beihang University were divided into 5 different groups and 5 CYTC representatives acted as group leaders to 1. guide the students to travel around Macau and 2. complete two tasks related to five competencies. First, each group was asked to design a performance for the talent show held in the evening on the 26th. Before the show, they needed to write a proposal which descripted their performance in details, explaining how their performance fitted the five competencies, calculating the budget they needed…etc. Besides, CYTC students also did several performances including acoustic band, flute playing, dancing, poetry recital…etc to enhance the atmosphere of cultural engagement, teamwork spirit and interpersonal relationship. Students from two Colleges performed in energetic and creative way in the show.
The second task was making a short video to be shown on July 27th. Each group was assigned to make a short video called “Love in Venetian” in Venetian with some predesigned storylines. The videos released in the sharing session perfectly showed the innovative thinking and creativity of the two Colleges students. Students worked passionately to achieve their tasks, which enhanced their ability of teamwork and leadership. During the wrap-up session, several students shared their thoughts and discussed the difference between the two universities. Students of the two Colleges built up close relationship after the visit. Most of them were truly touched by the hospitality and warmth from CYTC and vice versa. Finally, the Beihang University students thanked CYTC for showing them the beauty and exotic culture of Macau as well as the College education of the University of Macau. CYTC students also learned a lot no matter in terms of interpersonal relationship, service and leadership or different educational cultures from this visit.
