To cultivate students’ love for their country and Macao, and deepen communication between the universities of Macau and Beijing, Cheng Yu Tung College of the University of Macau visited Peking University from May 21st to 27th for a seven-day on-site exchange visit with Yuanpei College of Peking University. The theme of this visit is “A Historical and Cultural Journey to Beijing”. During their stay in Beijing, teachers and students from both universities visited multiple scenic spots and historical sites in Beijing to intensify their understanding of Chinese history.
Since 2015, Cheng Yu Tung College of the University of Macau and Yuanpei College of Peking University have held exchange program between students of the two colleges, established a deep friendship and constantly promoted exchanges. And in May this year, the faculty and students of Cheng Yu Tung College of the University of Macau arrived at Peking University on the 21st, eleven people in total,to started a historical and cultural journey in Beijing with the students of Yuanpei College.
Gong Yingxue, Associate Master of Cheng Yu Tung College at the University of Macau, and Sun Feiyu, Vice Dean of Yuanpei College of Peking University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Then Qi Liping and Liu Rui, who are the director of the Comprehensive Office of Yuanpei Colleg and the teacher of the Academic Affairs Office at Peking University,attended the welcome ceremony, presented reports, and participated in multiple activities. Under the careful arrangement of the Yuanpei College of Peking University, the delegation of teachers and students from Cheng Yu Tung College of the University of Macau participated in various activities in Beijing, including lectures, external visits, meals, etc.
Professor Zhang Ming from the Chinese Department of Peking University gave a special lecture on “The Philosophy of Life: The Life Meaning of SuShi’s two versions of ” Song of the Red Cliff”, providing students with a detailed introduction to SuShi’s life, and through this research to explain SuShi’s two versions of ” Song of the Red Cliff”. To introduce traditional Chinese opera culture, Professor Chen Jun from the School of Arts at Peking University gave a lecture on the theme “Playing the Guqin in Kunqu Opera towards the Moonlight” to cultivate students’ interest in one of the traditional Chinese operas – Kunqu Opera.
In addition, Gong Yingxue, the associate master of Cheng Yu Tung College attended the 100th Anniversary Lecture Hall of Peking University to enjoy the movie “Invisible Guests” and listen to Professor Dai Jinhua’s wonderful explanation with the students from both universities. During the visit, students from both universities visited places such as the National Museum, Beihai, and the Summer Palace, and experienced the courses offered by the Yuan Pei College of Peking University. They also experienced the similarities and differences between the courses offered by the two academies, accumulating valuable experience for the development of residential college courses at the University of Macau.
The exchange trip concluded on May 27. Through this exchange activity, teachers and students of Cheng Yu Tung College explored the profound side of Beijing’s history, and also had a more in-depth and comprehensive understanding of Peking University and Yuanpei College. They also learned from each other with students of Yuanpei College on this trip, and established deep friendship, leaving unforgettable memories in Beijing with a strong humanistic atmosphere. In August, teachers and students from Yuanpei College will visit the University of Macau for a follow-up visit. We sincerely look forward to the arrival of teachers and students from Yuanpei College and hope to further deepen the friendship, cooperation, and cultural exchange between the two colleges.
