To promote cultural exchange between Macau and mainland universities and to deepen Macau students’ understanding of China’s outstanding traditional culture and modern patriotic spirit, Cheng Yu Tung College of UM organized a delegation of professors and students to visit the Yuelu Academy of Hunan University from September 25 to 28, launching the “Cheng Yu Tung College Exchange Program with Yuelu Academy of Hunan University.”
On September 25, the opening ceremony of the exchange program was grandly held at Yuelu Academy. Professor Xiao Yongming, Dean of Yuelu Academy, and Professor Gong Yingxue, Associate Master of Cheng Yu Tung College, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches, both expressing their high regard for this exchange program.
The delegation of Cheng Yu Tung College participated in the annual Confucius Ceremony held by Yuelu Academy. On that morning, student representatives, dressed in their academic robes, joined the faculty and students of Yuelu Academy to commemorate the 2576th birthday of Confucius. The participants gained first-hand experience of the traditional ritual, gaining a profound appreciation for the richness of Chinese traditional etiquette and culture.
During the visit, the delegation toured the old site of the Shiwuxue Hall, reflecting on the patriotic feelings and missions of modern intellectuals who sought to “save the nation from peril.” They also visited the old site of the First Normal School, exploring the educational experiences of young Mao Zedong and feeling the passionate struggles of their predecessors. They ascended to Orange Isle, enjoying the scenic views of the Xiang River and deepening their understanding of patriotism. Professor Li Yixuan from the History Department of Hunan University gave a lecture titled “The Six Dynasties History in Yuelu Mountain,” helping students recognize that Yuelu Mountain is a cultural treasure trove carrying a thousand years of historical memory.
This exchange activity symbolizes the beginning of a profound friendship between the two colleges and lays a solid foundation for future cooperation. In August next year, Yuelu Academy will send eight students to visit Cheng Yu Tung College in Macau, and both sides look forward to reuniting.
