Prof. Yu Kwang Chung and Mrs Yu, Master Chung Ling, Director Zhu Shoutong, Prof. Wong Wai leung, Prof. Xu Jie and registrar Mr. Pong Chap Chong attended this event. It was very successful and approximately 100 audiences participated.
The first part of the event was student recital. 5 students from the Chinese Department, namely, Liu Jiejie, Wen Han, Wong Lo Man, Zhang Shi, Zeng Jiawen and 6 students from Cheng Yu Tung College, namely, Chai Ke, Han Xingyun, Li Huhan, Wang Shuang, Yin Yechi, Zhang Hong read 18 poems written by Prof. Yu. The poetry society also presented one poem. The students’ performances were impressive. Their touching recital accompanied by background images and music moved all of the audiences. Prof. Yu said he enjoyed the recital very much and that students’ recital and background images form deep alleys where he found his past.
After the students’ recital, Prof. Yu also read two poems. One is Shelley’s “Ozymandias” and the other one is Su Dongpo’s “Nian Nu Jiao Chi Bi Huai Gu”. Prof. Yu’s recital on “Ozymandias” was cadenced and powerful, and he used traditional chanting to present the “Nian Nu Jiao Chi Bi Huai Gu” which was very special.
Prof. Yu then sat on the stage with Master Chung, Director Zhu and Prof. Wong to take questions. Prof. Yu answered students’ questions on creative writing of poetry with humor and wisdom.
