On November 22 and 23, 2025, a group of 44 members from Cheng Yu Tung College, including College Interim Master Professor Alfred Wong, two Resident Fellows, Dr. Lü Chinghui and Dr. Tang Yuming, along with students, visited Foshan for a two-day study tour.

On the first morning, the team visited the Chow Tai Fook Jewelry Cultural Centre to learn about how Mr. Cheng Yu Tung built Chow Tai Fook into China’s top gold and jewelry brand and one of the world’s top ten luxury brands. They also learned about Mr. Cheng’s contributions to the Lunjiao District in Foshan—from supporting local education to setting up factories—demonstrating his commitment to giving back to his hometown. In the afternoon, the group visited Qinghui Garden. With the help of a professional guide, they explored the garden’s history and its significance to the Foshan region. As one of Guangdong’s Four Great Classical Gardens, Qinghui Garden is an essential cultural site to visit in Foshan.

On the second day, the team visited the Huitai Venture Capital Centre. The centre operates under a five-in-one model that integrates “industry, academia, research, exhibition, and commerce,” establishing itself as a distinctive landmark in Foshan. It not only provides flexible spaces for work, research, and exhibitions but also includes a living community called “Fifth Block.” There, students participated in a “Symbiotic Tree Art Workshop,” expressing creativity and engaging with the Greater Bay Area. Other impressive features included the Pioneer Academy and the City Lounge, which host art exhibitions, industry forums, and community co-creation activities. These spaces serve as platforms linking innovation and culture across the Bay Area, supporting the upgrading of Foshan’s manufacturing sector and urban renewal.

In the afternoon, the group visited Dongpeng Holdings Group. Located in Foshan, a renowned town for architectural ceramics in China, Dongpeng is a leading enterprise showcasing ceramic culture and driving high-quality development in the industry. Founded in 1972, the company has a history of 53 years. In addition to visiting the headquarters, the team went to Dongpeng’s T2M Sustainable Lab and Material Innovation Exhibition Base, where they learned about the concept of sustainable management and reflected on ways to reuse resources.

The motto of Cheng Yu Tung College is “Great Ambition, Great Love, and Cultural Refinement.” During this Foshan study tour, 44 teachers and students visited Chow Tai Fook, Qinghui Garden, Huitai Venture Capital Centre, and Dongpeng Holdings. From exploring the donor’s legacy and appreciating Lingnan culture to observing innovative industries and sustainable enterprises, they gained in-depth insights into brand building, cultural heritage, industry-city integration, and sustainable development in manufacturing. The journey not only embodied the spirit of “Great Ambition” from the college motto—encouraging students to aspire high while staying grounded and broadening their horizons through practical experience—but also allowed the participants to deeply appreciate the innovative energy and cultural foundation behind “Made in China,” making it a highly rewarding experience.
