The “Macao: Back to Common Roots Narrative Film” was exhibited in the MGM Theatre, telling the story of Macao and promoting patriotism by displaying century-long history of the city through a 100-meter scroll with novel creative techniques. The award ceremony for the film’s writing competition was held on December 11, 2022 at the MGM Grand Ballroom.

The writing competition is organized by MGM Mirage Macau, Macau Cultural Development Promotion Association and PEN Macau. It is specially sponsored by Bank of China Macau Branch, Macau Zhonglian Group Co., LTD., and supported by the Chinese Education Association of Macau. Since its release, the film has been watched by more than 10,000 people and the writing competition received more than 370 submissions from middle schools, high schools and universities across Macao. This award ceremony invited guests from different sectors and outstanding writers in Macao to appreciate the lasting charm of Macao’s history.

In the writing competition, students from the University of Macau reflected on the history of Macao and expressed their patriotism and love for Macao. A total of six UM students won awards with the highest number of winners among the tertiary group in Macau. Among them, Li Yuchong (FST, CYTC) received Second Award; Zhou Yaqi (FBA, CKPC) and Zhong Chenxi (FSS, CYTC) received Third Award, while He Yichen (FAH, CKYC), Lin Guo Jeannie Camille (FED, MLC) and Wong Lai Ioi (FSS) received Excellent Award.

In addition, UM won the tertiary group Excellent Award. Interim Master of Cheng Yu Tung College Prof. Wong Seng Fat and Associate Master Dr. Gong Yingxue attended the award ceremony. Prof. Wong accepted the Excellent Award on behalf of UM. He expressed gratitude to the organizers and applauded the efforts made by UM staffs and students. Prof. Wong said that UM staffs and students would continue to promote patriotic values and love for Macao by promoting the city’s culture and history in innovative ways.
