Spring is the season of poetry. After the successful poetry recital held last year, Cheng Yu Tung College invited four well-known poets, Wu Yin Ching, Wong Leung Wo, Ling Ku and Un Sio San, from Macau and Hong Kong to read poems again with our students.
The poetry recital is very special in a way that not only the poets read poems but also students chose one of the poets’ works to read. It is followed by questions and answers about the meaning of the poems. On Dec. 7th last year, Cheng Yu Tung College invited five poets to talk about and read poems with our students. Students were fully engaged especially the five students who read poems. They impressed the poets by their sentimental and touching performance. Students and poets also had an in-depth discussion. One of the poets wrote an article on this activity which was published in Macau Daily.
Students asked for a second poetry recital. This year Cheng Yu Tung College invited poets to come again. This time, Ling Ku and Un Sio San from Macau and Wong Leung Wo and Wu Yin Ching from Hong Kong were invited. And 8 students from Cheng Yu Tung College also read the poets’ works.
During the recital, one student even read with self-selected background music and some students paired up to read one poem. All the audiences including the poets enjoyed the recital very much. The discussion after the recital was very fruitful too. The poets were amazed by students’ views and compliment that they were like budding critics.
The poets and Master Chung and our students enjoyed delicious Poon Choi together and chatted happily. Poetry recital will be a regular activity in Cheng Yu Tung College in the future.
